Thyme of Death China Bayles 1 Susan Wittig Albert Books Reviews
love all her China Bayles series-i am re-purchasing the ones i had years ago and gave away. dumb that i did that.
And this is it - a nifty story full of likable, believable characters in a comfortably intriguing setting. I don't know how Susan Wittig Albert manages to write so MANY books and so well. I look forward to getting to know China Bayles & her friends better and spending more time - er, thyme - with them.
Fluffy but I really enjoy these "China Bayles" mysteries. The homicide rate in the little town of Pecan Springs, Texas is incredibly high!
I am a fan of Cozy Mysteries and thought that with the 'herbalist' theme it would fit nicely into that genre. I was mistaken. This book was more 'rough' ala Sue Grafton or Janet Evanovich but not as sophisticated in the writing (I am not a big fan of either of those either).
The 'mystery' was very thin and obvious clues were missed - I had it figured out while the heroine was still blundering around.
I didn't care for the gratuitous swearing either.
A fun read! It is a rather predictable story, but entertaining. The characters are reminiscent of the stories of Murder She Wrote. The series of books revolve around the adventures of former lawyer, China Bayles, who now lives in a small town running an herb store. Her knowledge of the law makes the stories believable.
This is a delightful introduction to a series. I used to work in a law school and now live in a small town so the characters resonate and are believable. I would definitely patronize that shop.
Oh wow I just realized the thyme on the front color is also a skeleton.. preeeety sneaky. This is just a great summer read.. it's entertaining and requires no brain capacity whatsoever. At first I was a little peeved by the datedness of the book. (Made up example **in a throaty voice** Ruby walks in wearing a black and white silk blouse with shoulder pads, black silk leggings and black patent leather shoes.) How silly. So I got over it and went from slightly peeved to inwardly amused. Overall if you are in the mood for a fun, summer read I definitely recommend it!
