Paul G Day did it again. After reading the first in the series of “The Black Fairy”, I loved the second book from the first word to the last.Lilly and her three friends, the dragonflies, continue the quest to overrule and defeat the dark Queen after they had escaped from her clutches. She even freed all her Fairy friends and family and other furry animals, as they were captured as well. All the animal kingdoms know her by now with the name “Little Dark Angel” or “Black Princess”.
In her journey she got more and more friends, like a flea, called “Flick”. She also meets the Frog Lord and the Grasshopper Queen. With the help of them, and the fairy elders and the charms she was given with all the magic of all the Fairies combined, she and her other friends defeated Denkeroth and the Hornets and then the Dark Queen.
How? I don’t want to give up more. It really is worthwhile reading the series. Great books, not only for the young, for all ages. Loved them

This is part two of the Black Fairy, Lilly, and her adventures. This is a creative and imaginative story that will capture your heart over the courage and perseverance of such a small creature as a fairy. Lilly is different from the other fairies because of her color and is not accepted by her own kind. She is adopted by some kindly dragonflies who give her a home. Lilly must face some obstacles and the evil Queen Eglarth. Will she be able to help her fellow fairies and other woodland creatures? Read this fascinating story and find out.
Middle grade children and older as well as adults will enjoy reading this wonderful tale filled with adventure, emotion and good against evil. I highly recommend this series.

Synopsis
Lilly is a very rare fairy. She is born a black fairy with black skin and white hair. She is unusual and different. This frightens the fairy elders. They refuse her a name and her parents leave fairy society with her. When her parents die, she is left an outcast. Although lonely, without fairy friends, she is not without friends. She is befriended by most of the creatures of the forest, especially dragonflies. When the fairies disappear, Lilly sets out on quest with her dragonfly friends to find them and finders herself face to face with the Dark Queen of Charms.
Once Lilly escapes the Dark queen, she visits the King of Frogs and Queen of Grasshoppers. She seeks the mystical people who live with the crystal sphere she remembers from dreams. However, the Dark Queen of Charms has recovered from her defeat and wants revenge. The conflict will require cunning, strength, and some help from her friends.
Review
This is two story rolled into one Search for the Lost Fairies and Escape from the Dark Queen of Charms. Paul G. Day has written and interesting fantasy story. It is listed for a young adult audience, and the themes and action suggest this is the right category. My primary criticism would be the lack of dialogue. Much of the story is exposition, meaning mostly description, and what dialogue there is is often almost childlike with tendency to being repetitive and singsongy.
Lilly is an intriguing heroine. As a black fairy, she is an outcast, but when captured by the Dark Queen of Charms, her fist instinct, the instinct she follows, is to save them. This tale has the elements of a coming of age story as Lilly must grow into her powers.
A great sequel to 'The Black Fairy and the Dragonfly' in which Lilly not only escapes the evil Dark Queen and meets fabled creatures from the Mystic Mountains, she also befriends someone even smaller than herself and learns the secret of the Dark Queens strangely shaped Minions.
But this is not all, there are still tasks to be performed, secrets to discover and mighty battles to be fought.
Thank you Mr. Day for a great, and inspirational, two book saga.
Author Paul Day continues to captivate young (and not so young) readers with his new sequel to “The Black Fairy and The Dragonfly”. In “Escape From The Dark Queen” the protagonist, Lilly the Black Fairy, once again triumphs over evil with her ingenuity and courage. Accompanied by her trusted and loyal friends, Lily battles wicked Queen Eglarth and saves her fellow fairies and the other woodland creatures from the queen’s evil clutches. The happy ending is delightful. Warmly recommended.
