4.5 Stars!Because I couldn’t possibly write a review for each of these books individually, this is a review of the original Fever series (books 1 through 5). Not only would it be too difficult to review them on an individual basis, but it just wasn’t going to happen because I couldn’t stop long enough between books to even be bothered to write a review. I devoured these books.
This is so not my cup of tea. I’m a traditional girl. I like believability, relatability, and normalcy. I like original and unique stories but ones that could happen in real life. Fantasy or paranormal? Usually, we don’t mesh. This series is definitely an exception.
It did have drawbacks. It was long, at times very drawn out (mostly toward the end), and thoroughly confusing. I know it was the author’s intention to keep us guessing and on the edge of our seats, but it got to the point where I had hardly any idea what was going on and it became frustrating. There are so many different facets to this story, so many unnatural laws at play, that it’s hard to keep everything straight. The game is constantly changing, there’s so many players, and the board is unfathomably large. Every time you think you’re winning, Moning has rewritten the rules.
But in her defense, it does keep you interested. You become desperate to know what happens. You root for good to trump evil and you rethink what it means to be either one. I was so drawn in to this story and the unforgettable, gripping characters.
Mac and Barrons are damn near perfection. Their chemistry is like nothing I’ve ever experienced between two characters. This is the ultimate slow burn. It doesn’t get any slower and hotter than these two. Their tension is so powerful. They make you feel so much by doing and saying next to nothing. They are unforgettable.
Take a step out of your comfort zone and read these books. You need to experience this world and these characters. Karen Marie Moning’s imagination is a work of art. I think if my brain was capable of creating a story of this magnitude, I’d go insane. It’s probably why she writes. Lucky for us.

Bloodfever Fever Series Book 2 eBook Karen Marie Moning Reviews
I was completely surprised at how much I truly enjoyed this book, the 2nd one in this series. I honestly started the 1st book determined not to like it because I thought the synopsis and a Chapter preview I had read was only catering towards the female readers. I'm so glad I didn't let that stop me. I quickly got engrossed in the storyline. I thought the manhandling of Mac by Jericho was a bit much and all the things Mac didn't know and seemed like she was refusing to learn was beginning to become quite tiresome to read. But as the story goes on you can begin to see the character development. I'm starting to like Jericho a whole lot better now (I mean he has layers and layers within him that hasn't been revealed yet to the reader...I secretly believe he is Merlin, if not he is definitely a Druid). Mac has grown on me and I am rooting for her at every turn. I am fully invested in this series now and I am rushing to get to the next book! Do yourself a favor and grab these books...addictive!
I am re-reading this series for the third time. The first time reading, I sped-read and caught the story itself. The second and now third time reading, I could take it slower and noticed more of the detail put into Monning’s descriptions, lovely metaphors and just plain witty writing.
Despite Mac’s many warnings that this is a dark story, her personality shines through. Mac is so relatable, believing herself to be a normal, average person. I adore that she is honest about who she is and knows what she likes. While she may no longer wear pink, have pretty nails or shiny blonde hair, he newly developing persona Mac 2.0 is awesome. She has some serious charisma and I love giggling about lines such as “I get off on a man with strong moral fiber. The closest Barrons ever gets to fiber is walking down the cereal aisle at the grocery store,” slipped in among the darker Fae happenings.
Monning left me wanting more and does an amazing job developing interesting characters and not revealing too much, too fast. Her writing is vivid, descriptive and full of interesting twists & turns. I wish this series could one day have a film adaptation (but I’ll always love the book most).
This is sincerely one of my absolute favorite series and I hope you give it a chance too!
Rating 3 Stars - Liked It
Bloodfever was a little better than Darkfever but not enough to give a higher rating. Karen Marie Moning did great with the prologue, catching up with what happened in book 1.
Mac still annoyed me but not as much. I wanted more character growth then what I got. Plot wise I also I wanted more. I felt there was just more revealing of bad guys/monsters. I still feel that there is more about her sisters death. Again this book did not wow me but still was unable to put down. I am just waiting for something to shock me, I did not see coming. I know the plot has a lot to do with finding the Sinsar Dubh (black magic book) but for some reason I am more interested in her sisters death.
Again no romance but I am starting to see Barrons and V'lane showing signs of interest in her. This is not a love triangle. They both have their reasons for needing her help. V'lane I am starting to get a little curious about. Barrons really caught my attention more in this book. I know there is so much more to him. I really need to know who and what is in his garage basement, who does the second phone number belong too if can not get in touch with Barrons. I am loving their banter and bickering. They have a good like/hate relationship.
Hopefully I will get more in book 3.
