Deceived by Magic a New Adult Urban Fantasy The Baine Chronicles Book 6 eBook Jasmine Walt Judah Dobin Mary Burnett

Sunaya Baine is once again on a mission.
This book was underwhelming. The dialogue needs work, action scenes were too short, and Sunaya is STILL too verbally impulsive. After 5 books I expect there to be character development. Sunaya should be able to read diplomatic situations or have better common sense and keep her mouth shut. Repeatedly she can't control herself, runs her month, and then afterward has this big inner dialogue about how she shouldn't have. If a character doesn't grow then they are no longer appealing. There were also pieces that seem pointless or make no sense such as, why does Com getting his daughter matter? Sunaya travels abroad and couldn't have brought him anyway. Why bother to spend half a chapter or more on Com when he plays no role in this book? Also, how does a character who at first spoke Garian only suddenly know some Notherian?

I hope the next book was written and edited better.

Deceived by Magic a New Adult Urban Fantasy The Baine Chronicles Book 6 eBook Jasmine Walt Judah Dobin Mary Burnett Reviews

An excellent addition to the series, this one finds Sunaya and Iannis on their way officially to Ganai for a royal funeral and unofficially looking for more evidence of the growing resistance. While I like to keep my reviews spoiler free, known that we find our favourite couple once again elbow deep in intrigue and magic as they race against time and even fight pirates to complete their mission. Along the way Sunaya gets to meet her father and half siblings and the tension is thick for all of that. A good book with a look at another area of such a lovely fantasy world.
Jasmine Walt writes another great book in the series that continues the story, advances the characters and keeps the reader involved and entertained. I have thoroughly enjoyed these stories and the characters. They are fun and entertaining. The stories are involved and fast paced. The story draws you in and makes you care about the characters. You want to see them succeed in their missions and you get worried when things go wrong. I cannot wait for the next book in the series to be available. This is one of the series that I buy immediately when it becomes available.
Deceived by Magic largely takes place in Garai, where Iannis, Sunaya, and other important politicians have been invited to attend the funeral of the late Emperor-Mage. Garai seems to be "China", or a large Asian continent in this universe and provides for a very interesting scenery and change of pace from the usual city-scape of Solantha. The team has devised a dangerous rescue and recon mission to take part in secret during a traditional week of mourning. During this time, we discover much of the culture in Garai. One of the main points that Walt brings up is the unequal treatment of women, which, obviously, does not sit well with Sunaya Baine. On top of this, Sunaya's birth family is also in attendance at the funeral, and it is not clear if they have ill intentions.

I have thoroughly enjoyed this series from the first book. I highly recommend starting from the beginning if you are just jumping into this series, as each book adds considerable depth to the story.
Just finish the book! Can't wait for the next book! But in the meanwhile I just have to sank my teeth in the short stories coming out before book 7. I love this series! I usually listen to audiobook but I just couldn't wait for them to come out. So I buy the next 3 books! Hopefully it won't be long (pleasssse)! Love to have something to read by summer!
Anyway! This book will have your emotions all over the place! Seeing how the other country treating their females, parents treating their children or family treating one another poorly can be tearful! Now there are some wonderful scene with father and daughter that make you wanted to cry! I hope you take a chance with this series like I did! You won't be disappointed if you do!
I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. This is an exciting sixth book of the Baine Chronicles. The story finds Sunaya and Iannis on a mission to stop the Resistance from annihilating mages and shifters. Ms. Walt’s writing style is fluid, with the right mix of descriptions and dialog to keep her stories moving at a quick pace. She also manages to inject snarkiness, humor, and romance into her characters to make them seem real and easy to identify with. Ms. Walt’s world building is unique, which is saying something in a flooded genre of paranormal/fantasy books. If you haven’t read the previous novels, please start with “Burned by Magic”, as the storyline builds from one book to the next. I can’t wait for more!

I received an ARC from the author for an honest review.
I've read this entire series so far and have enjoyed Sunaya's journey as she goes from a shifter-mage hiding her magic to the fiance and apprentice of the most powerful man in her territory. A lot's changed for her, many good things that she'll never take advantage of. She's a great character to follow and I love her attitude. I was excited to read this installment because her father's mentioned, and we'd finally get to see one of the major mysteries in her life.

Sadly, I was a little bummed. Like two other installments I could think of, this book wasn't as exciting for me. Yes, they go on another mission that deals with the bad guys, but it's crumbs in comparison to the evil that I witnessed in the past. I'm getting restless with the subplots and hope the next one will concentrate more on life-altering things. Like the rebels hitting closer to home, or Sunaya having to work her ass for the greater good. Or Iannis, whichever comes first lol. You can never get enough Iannis.
There's more going on now with longer timeline. I'm enjoying that and Suniya with her kicka$$ style & humor. The mages wardrobe, or lack of, get on my nerves as I visualize the book happening. All I can see is Hogwarts gone elaborate.. Sorry Jasmine!!
I like this type of book because it's got a variety going on, an easy, fun read & a fair balance of life, adventure, typical ups & downs, but Iannis better get his butt to work or someone is going to have to do his job. Oh wait!! That's what Fenris is for!😁 Love that grumpy, non-functioning shifter.. AND THE BIRRDDDD!!!
