A fictional account of a Police Officer's struggle to save his family from a neighborhood turned upside down by blight, poverty and drug dealers. A very compelling story of a community so down trodden President George W. Bush asked 'Can anything good come out of Brightmoor?'

Warpath edition by Jeffry Scott Hansen Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Warpath is an exciting book about a once proud and very good neighborhood that has now turned into hell. I can say this because I lived there the first 19 years of my life. This is one of those types of books that you can't put down. It is full of characters, both good and evil, and a race to the end to see who the ultimate winners/survivors are. Some parts are so real to life, it hurts, and that's what makes this such a good book.
"Warpath" is a very intense look at violence in the Brightmoor neighborhood of Detroit. Sounds trite, doesn't it? It's anything but.
Hansen brings his experience as a law enforcement officer and a US Marine to bear in this novel and uses this knowledge to craft a story set in a bleak world of crime and corruption. What makes someone like Malcolm, an obviously intelligent man, turn to a life of uncaring crime? What makes a man like John into a police officer who willingly sacrifices his familial happiness to "serve and protect?" What separates those who succeed in life from those who don't? What separates Warriors of Light from the Warriors of Darkness?
Don't get me wrong this is not a philosophical treatise, nor does it provides the answers to our world's ills. What it does have, however, are believable personalities and characters with whom one can empathize. Through the medium of the story, one is both entertained and forced to think about choices, both personal and communal.
Read this book. You will enjoy it, even when it makes you uncomfortable.
I am an avid reader of urban fiction from African-American authors. This book can hang with the best! It had so many great twist and turns. I did not know who to cheer for, Malcolm or John!
I had heard horror stories about Detroit and you really painted a vivid picture. This book should be read and reviewed in any Criminal Justice or social science class.
I still can't believe that you are a Caucasian author! This was an awesome read!
This book is a truly honest look into Detroit as a city and life as a police officer in that city. It is obvious from the first page that this is a subject the author feels very strong about. While the story and characters might be fictitious, this book is anything but.
This is not a book for the young or those who might be offended by a its use of language or subject matter. Both are gritty and real, and while some might find that offensive, you can't fault Jeffry for choosing to pull no punches.
This is definitely a book for anyone who likes crime or cop novels, anyone who is or who has known a police officer, or anyone from Detroit. A great read.
i should be getting my copy in the mail today i grew up in brightmoor from the ages of 13 1982 to 1999 i really hope its not fiction during my years in brightmoor some of them i would love to forget but over all its was a great place to live
What can I say I loved the book. Not only was it written well, but it was thought out also. Very discriptive, so well that even if I had not lived there I could have seen it. I used to live in Brightmoor, for nine years and know the area he writes about well. The One Stop is there and everything else.
The lingo and everything else is dead on the money also. I would recommend this book to anyone who once lived there or for that matter any of my friends who want to know what I saw. Though the neighborhood is trying to clean itself up, it is a long way from that in my opinion, but hey that is just one person's opinion at that.
I only really have one problem with the book and it isn't really the book itself. It is a quote that a former president made about that neighborhood while he was in office. I lived there the whole time he was in office and know for a fact that he never came through there so how can he be qualified to say what he did. But that is not on the author or anything like I said all in all it was an excellent book.
Wonderful book. Well written (some editing issues maybe? I had a kindle version maybe something was changed when it went digital?)
Good look into a Detroit that I know and love and written from someone that definitely knows the streets and neighborhoods.
It said too be continued, and I can't wait for the continuation!
